What are the RIGHTS OF NEIGHBORS IN ISLAM?

Islam teaches us to give rights to our neighbors, Muslims, or non-Muslims alike. The messenger of
Allah(PBUH)said: “Jibril kept recommending me to treat my neighbor well until I thought that he would tell
me to make him one of my heirs” (Bukhari:6014) Following are their rights:
PERMISSIBLE

  1. Show respect to them
  2. Help them if they are in need
  3. Visit them if they are sick
  4. Congratulate them on their happy occasions
  5. Give them moral support if they are going through a hardship
  6. Always speak with them with a pleasant voice
  7. Give them sincere advice if you see any wrongdoing
  8. Protect their property
  9. Greet them first
  10. Forgive their mistakes
  11. Exchange gifts (permissible items only)
  12. Offer condolences
  13. Share your food with them PROHIBITED
  14. Do not harm them with your words or actions
  15. Do not find their faults
  16. Do not throw anything (trash etc.) on their property
  17. Do not form bad opinions about them and don’t be curious about their personal affairs
  18. Do not spread rumors about them Source: Minhaj Al Muslim by Sheikh Abu Bakr Jabir Al Jazairy
